20-euro bills exceed 50-dollar bills as preferred by counterfeiters

During the second half of 2008, a total of 354,000 counterfeit euro banknotes were withdrawn from circulation, representing an increase of 13% compared to the first half of the year and totaling a total of 14.8 million euros, according to published data today by the European Central Bank (ECB).
Although usually the most frequent false notes are the 50 euro notes, in the second half of last year those of 20 were the majority, representing 43% of the total.
Then, the seconds of those that have retired a greater number of tickets were those of 50 euros, with 34% of the total; followed by 100 euro bills with 17.5%; 200 euro bills with 3.5%; the 10 euro bills with 1.5%; and the 5 euro bills with 0.5%.
By amount, the 100 euro notes withdrawn were those that added a higher value, with a total of 6.2 million euros; followed by 50 euro bills with 6 million.
On the other hand, the 20 euros banknotes totaled 3 million euros; bills of 200 euros 2.5 million; those of 10 euros 53,100 euros; and the tickets of 5 euros a total of 8,850 euros.
